About the Project

The Tusket Wind Energy Centre is a proposed utility scale wind energy facility east of Tusket, Nova Scotia. The Project has been in development since the end of 2021, and was conceived in response to the province’s push to decarbonize the grid by procuring large-scale renewable energy projects through competitive requests for proposal.

About the Competitive Procurement Process

In 2021, the Premier pledged to obtain 80% of the Province’s electricity from renewable sources by 2030. Part of this commitment will be reached through two competitive procurements, the Rate Based Procurement (RBP) https://novascotiarbp.com/rfp and the Green Choice Program https://novascotiagcp.com/.

The RBP and the Green Choice Program aim to attract low-cost and innovative solutions to procure a total of 600 MW of renewable electricity for the Province of Nova Scotia. In addition to supporting Nova Scotia's goals to fight climate change, these procurements will encourage investment and create jobs.

The Procurement Administrator, appointed by the Province, conducts the request for proposals (RFP) process to identify the most competitive low-impact renewable energy projects. These projects will be awarded Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Nova Scotia Power Inc. (NSPI) to supply renewable electricity generation for their customers.
